About

Product designer who owns the loop — not just the screens.

Just over 10 years in UX. BFA in Graphic Design from BYU-Idaho (2012–2017), then FamilySearch — UX Design Intern (2016), then UX Designer (2017–2019). From July 2019 through 2026 I was at Entrata as a Senior Product Designer on complex property-management systems. For about a year that role expanded into Product Lead: research through conception, prototype, handoff, and delivery with an owned development team.

At FamilySearch I helped drive measurable campaign outcomes — 95% more members and 107% more other patrons retained than the previous year, 1.1 million patrons outside the US engaged in a campaign, and 86K feedback comments (90% positive) across 26 campaigns. That early habit of tying experience work to engagement and retention carried into Entrata.

About a year and a half into that Entrata stretch the company held a Burn the Boats moment: traditional design and product-management workflows gave way to AI-assisted systems. I built my own operating system in that shift — research synthesis, data pulls, prototyping, documentation, and eng communication — first with Figma Make, then with Cursor — so I could move at Product Lead speed without dropping craft or judgment.

I’m looking for Product Design roles where that mix is valued: ambiguous problem spaces, field and production data as decision fuel, AI as leverage, and honest outcomes (or clear measurement plans when results are still maturing).

The polished stone

The stone on the home page is the metaphor for how I work. You start with a rough complaint, idea, or problem — jagged, too big, full of the wrong facets. Research and validation knock pieces off. Workflows, wires, and sketches give it a shape. Prototypes take feedback and abrasion. Usability testing polishes further. What ships should feel dense and usable — a polished stone, not a raw boulder with a coat of paint.

Rough → refined — the same material, less of what doesn’t belong.

How I work

  • Own the problem end-to-end — framing, research, strategy, design, and eng partnership.
  • Ground UI in site visits, interviews, and production data when it’s available.
  • Make tradeoffs explicit: what shipped, what waited, and which metric we were chasing.
  • Use AI workflows to go faster on synthesis, prototyping, and documentation — without outsourcing the decisions.

Path

  • BYU-Idaho (BFA, Graphic Design) — 2012–2017; craft foundation.
  • FamilySearch — Intern (2016) → UX Designer (2017–2019); retention, reach, and discovery feedback as proof points.
  • Entrata — Senior Product Designer (2019–2026); systems and AI workflow products in property management.
  • Product Lead (~1 yr, at Entrata) — research → ship with an owned eng team against business goals (scope beyond the LinkedIn title).
  • AI-native practice (~1.5 yrs) — rebuilt how I design and deliver after Burn the Boats; Cursor skills, rules, and coded prototypes.

What collaborators say

“I hired Cody onto my team and have seen him grow through the majority of his career, so I know his work well. He’s that rare designer/PM hybrid who doesn’t stop at the problem as stated. He keeps digging until he finds the root cause, and more than once that instinct changed what we built. Cody doesn’t design from opinion, he designs from evidence… I’d hire Cody again without hesitation.”

— Jeff Nicholson, Sr. Vice President of Product Design (Entrata)

“Cody is one of the most talented overall designers I’ve worked with. He can take seriously complicated flows and turn them into interfaces people can actually use without thinking twice.”

— Kyle Ashby, Product Designer (Entrata)

“Cody is passionate about helping uncover the right experience for patrons. He has created some very inspiring experiences that helped drive excellent engagement… [and] very strong patron feedback scores.”

— Cris Rees, Sr. Product Manager (FamilySearch)
